About our organization

Purpose

The Great American Scholarship Foundation (GASF) was created to facilitate the distribution of financial support to college-bound high school seniors of children of Korean American Immigrants.

The GASF seeks to encourage and reward those students who personally engage in and contribute to the advancement of civic activities within their own neighborhoods, local communities and the greater United States.

Background

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the population of Americans of Korean Ancestry (AKA) has grown to nearly 1.8 million or 0.6% of the total American population. Immigrants from Korea have built a strong reputation within their communities as hard-working contributors who are critical to the development and progression of American industry.

Currently, there are a number of scholarship opportunities honoring AKA students on the basis of academic excellence and/or service to the Korean American community. However, the GASF is designed to award those AKA students with a strong record of remarkable volunteerism and support both within and beyond their local, Korean American communities.

Long-term Plan

Beyond the initial funding the plan to sustain the endowment is as follows:

- Grow the endowment size to $10,000,000 in five years:

  • Secure five $200,000 individual scholarships and nine $1,000,000 individual scholarships or a combination thereof to meet the goal.
  • Therein, enabling the dissemination of $500,000 per year through the distribution of 50 scholarships of $10,000 each.

- If the 5-year goal is not met by December 31.2027, the GASF may:

  • transfer any remaining assets as donations to credible nonprofit organizations as designated by the respective donors.
