  • 1. Who may apply for a GASF Scholarship?


    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • College-bound Korean American high school seniors – Class of 2024.

    • One of the applicant’s parents must be Korean American.

    • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen currently residing in the Southeastern United States: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee.

    • The applicant must have a minimum 2.8 GPA and  around 200 recorded volunteer service hours in non-Korean communities during high school(4 years).

    •Scoring rubric as follows: 

       - Community Volunteer Service: 50%

       - Letters of Recommendation: three at 10% each 

         (parent, school administrator/teacher, and community leader)

       - Academic GPA: 10%

       - Family Income/Financial Need: 10% 




  • 2. Will the Foundation require students to be enrolled on a full-time basis?


    Yes. The scholarships are available to full-time students.





  • 3. How many scholarship grants does the Foundation plan to award?


    Five to seven scholarships are anticipated for 2024 with plans to expand to 10 – 12 in 2025 and 50 by 2027.







  • 4. When may I apply for a GASF Scholarship and when will winners be notified?


    The GASF will open its online portal to receive applications on October 10, 2023. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2024. Winners will be notified on February 29, 2024, and the GASF Award Ceremony will take place on March 29, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. Location TBD.

  • 5. Are there any expectations for how the scholarship money should be used?


    All scholarship funds will be sent directly to the winner’s school to cover educational tuition and any legitimate school-related expenses should any funding remain once basic tuition and fees are paid (e.g., room and board).



  • 6. Are GASF winners required to attend the Awards Ceremony in order to receive the scholarship?


    Yes, GASF provide travel cost for the student awardee and a guest. 



  • 7. Will GASF cover transportation and expenses for the winners to attend the Awards Ceremony?


    GASF will cover travel expenses for the award recipient and one guest to attend the Awards Ceremony. Additional details will be provided to winners at a later date.


  • 8. What, if anything, are the students expected to do after receiving the scholarship?


    Each recipient will be required to write an essay about their experience and indicate how they have continued in their commitment to community service as outlined in the award criteria. The essay is to be submitted to GASF directly after the completion of the first year of study.


  • 9. Will the winners be publicized in any way through media, the website, or by other means?


    Winners will be publicized with a press release from GASF and on the GASF website, in social media and in local and perhaps national media outlets. A media permission form will be provided with the initial application. Parents may designate on the form whether they do or do not give GASF this permission. GASF will honor the wishes of the parents.


  • 10. What forms of volunteer hour documentation will be required?


    Applicants will be able to record their volunteer hours and accompanying details through an online form here.
